FOCUS Leadership Team

FOCUS is led by a great group of adult and student leaders!  These individuals are passionate about college students discovering and walking with Jesus Christ.

Adult Leadership Team

Ben Coleman // College & Singles Pastor

Ben and his wife, Megan, have been at HPBC since the Fall of 2007.  Megan is a Texas Ex and their whole family bleeds burnt orange!  Ben loves how God is leading College Students to recapture and applying their faith in the midst of College life pressures and transitioning into adulthood.  You will constantly hear him ask you, “what do you see God doing in you and through you?”  You can connect with him here on his blog, on Facebook, Twitter or Google+.

Chris & Allison Gaskins // Freshmen Co-ed Bible Study Teachers

Chris and Allison taught college freshmen at HPBC for several years before moving away.  The moved back and rejoined our teaching team during the Spring of 2011.  Apart from loving Jesus, college students and HPBC, they love to spend time outdoors!

Jason & Mollie West // Sophomore & Junior Bible Study Teachers

Jason’s time with FOCUS started when he was a student at UT.  When he graduated and got a job in Austin, he stuck around and has since taught Bible Study in the International Students classes as well as in the youth ministry for several years.  Mollie grew up at HPBC and served for years in the Children’s Ministry.  They got married in Spring of 2010 and love being able to do ministry together.

Nick & Taylor Engel // Sophomore & Junior Bible Study Teachers

Nick and Taylor are brand new to FOCUS!  Taylor’s dad is Fred McNab, the Associate Pastor of Worship at HPBC, and her mom, Dolores, works in FOCUs as well.  Nick and Taylor are recently married and are excited to minister to college students as a part of their new lives together in Austin.

Fred Heldenfels // Senior & Grad Students Bible Study Teacher

Fred has been a member of HPBC for many years and taught in FOCUS most of that time.  Even though he is a die-hard Aggie…we keep him around!  He has written a Bible Study for college seniors called, Paycheck or Purpose, that his class studies each Fall semester.  His heart is to help students not just see their future career as a source of a paycheck…but rather part of God’s purpose in their life. Fred’s heart for college students is also put into practice through his appointment by Governor Perry as the Chairman of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

Laura Heald // Girls Only Bible Study Teacher

For several years Laura was an active member of the Singles Ministry at HPBC, and has now joined the teaching team in FOCUS.  She is a Middle School drama teacher and loves teaching the Bible to young single women.

Everrett Sheffey // Freshmen Guys Discipleship

Every year since Everrett graduated from The University of Texas, he has led a small discipleship group for Freshmen Guys at HPBC.  Through doing that for 35 years straight, he’s made quite an impact both in the Kingdom of God and the lives of over 150 men!

Paul & Judith Hiller // International Student Ministry Leaders

Paul and Judith first joined FOCUS to teach a Bible Study for Graduate Students.  That class slowly transitioned into the International Student Ministry that we have today.  They love International Students and show it regularly by having them at their house all the time as well as feeding them more BBQ and TexMex than you can imagine!

Mark & Glynis Wentzel // International Student Ministry Leaders

The Wentzels joined with the Hillers to minister to International Students in 2010 and have been a huge asset ever since.  The experience they gained while living in the Middle East and their love for Internationals living in Austin make them a great fit for our International Student Ministry.

Dolores McNab // Hospitality

Dolores is married to Fred McNab, the Associate Pastor of Worship at HPBC.  The two have been ministering to college students for years at each of the different churches they have served in.  Dolores makes sure that each Sunday our students have breakfast to eat and a happy face to talk to!  She helps us minister to students through the best means available…free food!
